Why a Code of Ethics for Volunteer Management professionals? Perhaps a better term is “code of practice”, which will help our professionals discuss difficult issues and to make those difficult decisions when necessary.
Codes of Ethics establish principles and values that give members a framework or set of standards within which to operate. One definition states, “Professionals and those working within acknowledged professions, exercise specialist knowledge and skill. How the use of this knowledge should be governed when providing a service to the public can be considered a moral issue and is termed professional ethics.” (Ruth Chadwick (1998). Professional Ethics. In E. Craig (Ed.), Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy. London: Routledge.
VMPC’s Code of Ethics is attached below - in both English and French.
Attached also is an abridged version, which can be printed and posted in a prominent place in members’ offices.
