Job Description / Duties

The Volunteer Services program supports care and service delivery across the continuum of care that responds to the demographic, generational, cultural, health and Zone needs, and challenges inherent in volunteerism and, care and service delivery. The NSHA program directs or recommends standards and services supporting volunteers who enhance patient care across Nova Scotia Health through more than 800 programs; that integrate and align with People Services and other program services and strategies; that ensure the principles and practices that guide the NSHA, IWK and Department of Health and Wellness (DHW) such as mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and interprofessional collaboration are integrated within the services this program provides and through the messages delivered.

In collaboration with NSHA stakeholders and community partners, the (70%) Volunteer Resources Consultant researches, plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates volunteer services that support care and service delivery across the continuum.

The Volunteer Resources Consultant provides recommendations, leadership and support to managers and volunteers, and coordination of service delivery across a range of specific programs.

As (30%) Volunteer Program Lead for Palliative Care, you will promote, develop, coordinate, and maintain volunteer programs that work for the support and benefit of patients, families of patients and the Palliative Care Service.

Qualifications / Required Skills

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) or commitment to obtain within five years is required

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required

Membership of Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC) is required

Committed to the philosophy and principles of Hospice Palliative Care

Front line Palliative Care course

Ongoing professional development is required Minimum 3 years recent related experience in volunteer management and/or human resources

Excellent leadership, organizational, follow-through and time management skills, with the ability to effectively and efficiently prioritize tasks and accurately manage multiple, time-sensitive priorities

Experience in mediation and conflict resolution

Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-skills

Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships

High level of competence in both written and verbal communication

Excellent customer service, interpersonal and relationship building skills

Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem solving and decision making skills

Excellent consultative, influencing and coaching skills

Additional Information

Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly

Salary: $30.32 - $37.90 Hourly
