Category: OtherThe Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for defining position profiles, recruitment, screening, scheduling, training and performance management, support, and retention of qualified volunteers. Primary responsibilities:
-support the Human Resources Director in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans for the Volunteer Program;
- develop a climate of volunteer readiness among staff, providing staff training, structures and guidance to support working with volunteers.
-lead and coordinate project groups made up of staff and volunteers;
-develop strong, regular and personal relationships with all active volunteers;
-in liaison with program staff, review and update volunteer profiles, policies and training materials;
-assess organizational needs and design volunteer roles and responsibilities to meet those needs;
-plan, coordinate, and track the recruitment and placement of new volunteers, including international volunteers and interns;
-maintain a comprehensive and up to date volunteer database;
-ensure volunteers have adequate supervision and performance feedback to fulfil their positions;
-ensure volunteers are recognized and appreciated through formal and informal means; and
-keep volunteers informed and involved;
-liaise with international volunteer organizations and other organizations seeking volunteer experiences; and
-organize volunteer appreciation events and other recognition programs.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
-experience coordinating a volunteer program;
-exceptional time and task management skills;
-high level of emotional intelligence and personal authority for inspiring volunteers to perform at an advanced professional standard;
-ability to coach and resolve conflict in a positive manner;
-very strong verbal and written communications;
-advanced ability to listen empathetically and make use of effective perceptions within appropriate programs;
-comfortable and experienced in developing and delivering training sessions and manuals;
-strong IT skills;
-ability to work in a collaborative, pro-active environment with a high degree of autonomy and accountability;
-ability to work with a diverse group of people with a wide variety of skills, experiences, and expectations;
-willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends;
-interest in engaging in an emergency response environment from time to time, which may include a temporary increase in hours, and
-ability to thrive in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
Our ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following:
-experience with large-scale seasonal recruitment drives;
-knowledge of Better Impact volunteer database;
-membership of Administrators of Volunteer Resources BC (AVRBC);
-experience with online training platforms;
-Certificate in Volunteer Administration (CVA) designation;
-personal volunteering experience;
-a keen interest in wildlife and nature.

Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is seeking an energetic, highly organized, and multi-talented part-time Volunteer Coordinator. The coordinator plays a pivotal role in Canada’s busiest wildlife rehabilitation centre. We have a comprehensive volunteer program that includes over 200 active volunteers. Leadership, relationship building, organization, and taking initiative to make Wildlife Rescue’s volunteer program more effective, are essential to this role.
Wildlife Rescue’s annual cycle includes recruitment of ongoing, seasonal and special project volunteers, interns, high school work experience participants, and international volunteers. Volunteer positions include, but are not limited to animal care, transport, education, marketing, fund development, business operations, gardening, helpline, maintenance and special projects. All volunteers go through a basic orientation as well as specialized training for areas in which they work.
