Category: ManagementThe position of Volunteer Coordinator and Community Engagement has a primary responsibility in
developing, implementing, maintaining and growing an exemplary volunteer program to further develop the
programs and supports that Terra provides. In addition to operational support to volunteers, this position is
also responsible for identifying and cultivating opportunities and relationships for the community to
participate in the Terra mission.
The ability to engage and inspire individuals and form supportive relationships is key to being successful in
this role. You are a relationship-builder, team player with an aptitude to learn, a willingness to contribute and
a passion for making a difference in the community.
This is a full time position (37.5 hours per week) that reports to the Manager of Fund Development and
Donor Stewardship and is flexible to meet the needs of the position and agency. This may include working occasional evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Effectively recruit, engage, orientate and steward volunteers; promote the volunteer program internally and externally to gain community support of the program and the organization
Develop and implement goals, objectives and strategies for the volunteer program in collaboration with the Manager of Fund Development and Donor Stewardship which reflect the mission of the organization and align to its strategic priorities
Collaborate with program staff to identify and provide long-term volunteer opportunities to enrich Terra’s program delivery for our young families
Develop a budget in consultation with the Manager of Fund Development and Donor Stewardship
Maintain accurate volunteer records and conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implement improvements as necessary
Ensure adherence to volunteer policies and procedures to maintain best practises
Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization
Play a support role in the planning and execution of agency special events, including fundraising events and activities, as a member of the resource development team
Takes initiative in developing and deepening community relationships to secure new in-kind donations that young families benefit from
Collect data, measure outcomes, and complete evaluation and reporting activities as required using Raiser’s Edge database
Beyond meeting the following criteria, it is vital that our successful candidate has a deep desire to help create an inclusive, caring community that welcomes and appreciates teen parents.
Minimum of a Certificate in Volunteer Management or related field
Minimum two years of relevant experience working with and supervising volunteers in a nonprofit environment
Demonstrated experience utilizing volunteers to enhance programs and services within a nonprofit organization
Self-starter and ability to develop positive and effective relationships with diverse volunteers and members of the community
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong customer service orientation
Must possess a high level of professionalism, tact and interpersonal skills to work with stakeholders at all levels
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver results
Commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personal information
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and Outlook)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Previous fund development and event planning experience is a plus
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and assist with incoming community donations (e.g., diapers, baby clothes, formula, etc.)
Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
Personal vehicle and valid class 5 driver's license is required
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Salary: $40,000 - $44,000
