Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Leader, Volunteer Resources the Coordinator, Volunteer Resources organizes, coordinates and implements the volunteer program for Providence Health Care. The Coordinator works closely with staff team members, volunteers, family and community links in developing and coordinating a meaningful volunteer program that aligns to the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of the organization. The Coordinator works continuously with various community agencies and groups in ensuring potential resources and placements for volunteers.

Duties
Develops and implements the volunteer program at assigned site(s) in order to meet the needs of the residents and patients of that facility.
Recruits in an organized and ongoing manner targeting specific audiences for each position required.
Organizes, promotes, hosts and facilitates a minimum of 4 Information Sessions for interested applicants and/or new volunteers for assigned site(s) collectively, in addition to required and varied inservice/ educational sessions for volunteers throughout the year.
Interviews and screens all applicants in a timely and professional manner.
Supervises, supports, monitors and recognizes all volunteers.
Evaluates overall program and individual volunteers.
Assists the Leader in the support of the assigned site(s) Gift Shop and Auxiliary/Guild.
Maintains community linkages, renews and maintains professional memberships and applicable Volunteer Centre and counterpart memberships.
Prepares quarterly statistical and activity reports for the Leader, Volunteer Resources.
Participates in the preparation of, coordinates and distributes a quarterly, volunteer newsletter.
Participates actively on related/assigned multidisciplinary teams/councils/program related task groups across sites as appropriate.
Pursues professional development as available and appropriate and keeps abreast of current trends within the field of Volunteer Management.
Promotes a positive community profile for Providence Health Care and the Volunteer Resources teams and liases with varied community agencies.
Shares responsibility with all Coordinators for the Volunteer Programs across the sites in the absence of the Leader.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Skills
Experience personally as a volunteer.
Interest and experience in working with a varied client population including seniors.
Ability to meet effectively with residents, patients, volunteers, the public and staff in an appropriate and courteous manner.
Effective presentation and public speaking skills
Sound computer experience.
Sound decision making skills, good listener, team player and flexibility.
Ability to encourage and motivate others.
Mobile and has the ability to work at different Providence Health Care Sites.

Education
Undergraduate degree in a related field. Minimum of three years experience in the coordination of volunteer resources, preferably in health care, and a certificate of Volunteer Management or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the organization.
