The Saanich Police Department is recruiting for a Coordinator of Volunteers and Crime Prevention Programs who will develop and implement plans, strategies, and initiatives to engage volunteers and to enhance, deliver and maintain crime prevention, Block Watch and volunteer programming. The Volunteer Coordinator ensures successful program delivery and community engagement by providing leadership, mentoring and support to more than 150 volunteers across the department.

The successful candidate will recruit, orientate, train and support volunteers for participation in Saanich Police sponsored crime prevention programs, including the Ace Mascot Program and Community Safety Office This position also recruits, trains, and supervises the Summer Crime Prevention Students. The Volunteer Coordinator will have demonstrated experience as a volunteer and in developing and managing volunteer programs.

Requirements include a two-year diploma in Human Resource management, Project management, Volunteer program management, or other related field; Volunteer Management Certificate Program; three years direct experience in a similar position with particular training and experience in the recruitment, retention, training, maintenance and motivation of volunteers; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with a personal vehicle for work related use. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate must pass/maintain the required enhanced reliability security clearance.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (35 hours per week).

As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.
