Job Description / Duties

In this strategic leadership role, you will supervise and evaluate volunteers, while providing leadership, professional development, and achievement of program goals. This will involve taking a strategic view of operations and service delivery and following through on issues that impact the overall quality of operations. You will also develop policies, procedures, and standards for functioning at the service level, and provide leadership within the service area for quality and risk management activities and initiate program and community development. You will oversee the programs at Comox Valley Hospital, Comox Valley Nursing Centre, Cumberland Lodge and Comox Valley Community Health Unit.

Your responsibilities include all aspects of recruitment, evaluation, duties assignment/scheduling, training, supervision and placements based on individual skills and program needs. You will ensure that the needs of volunteers are recognized and met through an active and informative Volunteer Resources Department and there is appropriate recognition for volunteers and encourage staff to recognize the service of volunteers.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Along with your degree in Administration, Social Sciences, Education, Health Sciences or a related field, you have 5 years related experience managing volunteers, preferably in a large healthcare setting. We require a Certificate in Volunteer Management, membership with Administrators of Volunteer Resources BC (AVRBC) and/or a related national professional organization such as Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC).

Your background demonstrates your success with managing volunteers a complex healthcare environment. With excellent communication and organizational skills, you can establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, medical staff, department leaders, Volunteer Resources staff, volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, patients and the public in a similar role.
