Job Description / Duties

The position is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive volunteer relations program at Vancouver Aquarium. This includes needs assessment, recruiting, on-boarding, recognition, training, and ongoing engagement with volunteers. The role supports the needs for volunteer resources for Vancouver Aquarium and Marine Mammal Rescue Centre, while ensuring that we provide volunteers with meaningful and enriching opportunities.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Develops and implements strategic and operational plans for the volunteer program based on stakeholder input and feedback such as the annual volunteer engagement survey
Maintains governance policies and volunteer standards for effective volunteer management.
Builds and maintains relationships cross-functionally with employees, volunteers, and communities
Manages volunteer records via an online volunteer database
Compiles annual engagement data and communicate the impact of volunteer activity
Manages a departmental budget and makes fiscally responsible decisions
Plans and organizes volunteer engagement activities and events, including the National Volunteer Week
Provides coaching and mentoring support to Aquarium team members who are responsible for overseeing and/or supervising volunteers
Undertakes special assignments or projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: *

Certificate in Volunteer Management, diploma in Human Resources Management or degree in any discipline with a combination of relevant experience
3-5 years’ experience in Volunteer Management, including 1-2 years supervising staff
Ability to lead, manage and motivate a team of volunteers; foster high levels of engagement.
Knowledge and experience interpreting appropriate legislation, professional standards, and The Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement
Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, experience using databases, conducting virtual meetings, and creating online training
Knowledge of current and emerging trends in volunteerism and best practices in volunteer management.
Ability to collaborate with external and internal stakeholders.
Well-developed interpersonal, coaching, mentoring and relationship building skills.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Strong public speaking skills and experience conducting volunteer training.
CVA or CPHR designation an asset.
Membership of Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC) an asset.

Additional Information


Salary: $62,400.00-$81,900.00 per year
