Job Description / Duties

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Volunteer Resources, the Regional Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for supporting recruitment, screening, selection and onboarding of volunteers within assigned area. Once selected and onboarded, this position will also deploy volunteers to applicable programs/locations, coordinating with local staff and volunteers to ensure a smooth transition.

This position will also work closely with staff and volunteers to perform assessments, determine volunteer needs and develop meaningful volunteer initiatives/programs within assigned area.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Needs Assessments & Planning:

Liaises with staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders to assess needs as they related to volunteerism within assigned area.
Makes recommendations based on the findings and where approved, assists with the development and delivery of initiatives/programs.
Identifies knowledge, skills, abilities and motivations required to fulfill volunteer roles, based on program area as opposed to location.
Creates and updates volunteer position descriptions to meet assessed needs.
Assists in developing policies and procedures relating to volunteer activity.
Recommends training applicable to volunteers and assists with the development/delivery of such programs.

Volunteer Intake Within Assigned Area:

Posts volunteer opportunities.
Recruits, screens, and selects volunteers.
Ensures required intake paperwork and background checks, where applicable, are completed.
Onboards new volunteers.
Deploys volunteers to applicable program areas/locations.
Liaises with on-site staff and volunteers to ensure smooth transition.
Completes a check-in with new volunteers and assigned program/location to obtain feedback and trouble-shoot any issues.

Volunteer Support:
Acts as the regional administrator of the online volunteer management software system.
Provides training, support, development and overall management for the assigned area in Better Impact.
Reports on identified volunteer metrics outlining the impact volunteers contribute to the assigned area.
Provides guidance and support to staff working with volunteers.
Advances more complex issues to the Senior Manager, Volunteer Resources.
Works with staff and volunteers to orchestrate ongoing meaningful volunteer recognition initiatives, with heightened recognition through National Volunteer Week.
Promotes volunteer opportunities and highlights volunteer contributions both internally and externally.
Implements retention strategies through the assigned area.
Participates in activities to raise staff awareness of the critical role volunteers play in the organization.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Post-secondary education in a related field with minimum of 3 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer. Related experience includes, but is not limited to:
Recruitment and selection;
Creating job descriptions;
Volunteer coordination/engagement; and
Working with animals or supporting human resources functions in a non-profit organization.
Completion of CVA certification in Volunteer Management is an asset.
Knowledge and experience in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams; experience using Better Impact and/or learning management systems is an asset.
Ability to work and coordinate with different teams, to understand organizational needs to align priorities with strategic outcomes.
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing deadlines and multiple priorities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively as a member of a team.
Philosophical harmony with the BC SPCA mission, vision, and strategic directions.
Must have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
