Job Description / Duties

The Volunteer Coordinator is a unique position that provides the vision, direction and supervision for the volunteer supported retail operation the Sunroom Café as well as various a variety of additional volunteer programming at the Cross Cancer Institute. Working with a dynamic team of Volunteer Resources professionals, and reporting to the Manager, Volunteer Resources, this position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the operations in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. Primarily provides expertise in retail operations and volunteer management processes. Retail Management includes expertise in the finances of the ‘product buy’, product pricing, inventory management, store and product marketing and merchandizing. Volunteer management processes includes the administration of the overall volunteer engagement cycle and use of volunteer management software. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders within the retail markets and the Edmonton zone to ensure volunteer supported retail shop operations are fully leveraged to generate maximum profits.

Qualifications / Required Skills

A post-secondary degree in Volunteer Resources/Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or Management in Human and Social Services or an equivalent of experience, education, and training may be considered. Supervisory experience is required. 1-3 years of personal volunteer experience is required. Safe Food Handling for Alberta licensing required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experiences in a similar leadership role within a volunteer environment in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity (healthcare experience is an asset), Extensive knowledge of Better Impact is an asset, 2-5 years of Volunteer Management experience is an asset, VMPC membership and certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is preferred, 1-3 years of retail experience is an asset, Cash handling and use of an integrated retail POS system experience is an asset.
