Job Description / Duties

Responsibilities:
Provide volunteers with engaging and meaningful volunteer opportunities that support the needs of people with disabilities and caregivers.
Recruit respectable volunteers, including placement students and interns, that will support and sustain program delivery.
Organize, manage and facilitate a variety of volunteer opportunities that support program delivery within the specified region.
Identify professional development needs of volunteer workforce and provide training opportunities.
Contribute to the development of volunteer-related policies, procedures and practices in accordance with organizational standards.
Develop annual plans for volunteer engagement that align with the CPAS goals.
Manage volunteer resources effectively to meet program goals and objectives in a changing environment.
Maintain program records and files in accordance with organizational standards including the volunteer database.
Contribute, monitor and report on annual objectives and strategic plans.
Under the direction of management, implement and monitor evaluation standards for related volunteer engagement to demonstrate impact.
Organize, facilitate and support a range of effective service groups as required for the benefit of stroke survivors, people with disabilities, and/or caregivers, involving volunteers in service delivery.
Provide leadership and support to local teams in the maintenance of a network of voluntary stroke or disability clubs and groups, working with the relevant local team members.
Collaborate with local community-based, volunteer-led associations, related groups and key stakeholders to support best-practice models for peer support, self-management and community re-engagement.
Stay up to date with new developments and trends related to volunteer engagement as it relates to supporting people with disabilities.
Follow all MODC policies and procedures.
Support and engage in MODC local fundraising and awareness activities and events
Identify and complete applications for local funding opportunities
Promote a positive, safe work environment

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education and Experience Required:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in health promotion, education, social services, volunteer development, community development or related area.
3-5 years working experience in a volunteer coordination capacity
Experience working with the disability community, knowledge of disability issues and/or lived experience of disability will be considered strong assets
Experience of providing person-centred support to vulnerable people
Experience of working with health and social care professionals in a variety of settings
Experience with group facilitation
Qualifications Required:
Proven expertise in volunteer resources development and volunteer management
Experience and comfort using Microsoft Office products and volunteer management programs
Demonstrated leadership abilities
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated program planning, implementation and evaluation skills
Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
Proven ability to supervise, motivate, train and monitor the performance of a team of volunteers
Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
Works effectively with, and demonstrates respect for others
Self-motivated to achieve results
Demonstrated flexibility to changing demands of the job and multiple tasks and deadlines; results-oriented
Demonstrates willingness and ability to apply new methods and techniques
Driver’s license essential
French an asset

Additional Information

Please note the following:
This position will be a member of the Halifax regional team, which is located at 7071 Bayers Rd, Halifax, B3L 2C2.
This position will mainly work from home but will be required to work out of the office occasionally, once it fully re-opens.
Some travel will be required throughout Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, Community Programs & After Stroke, the Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement, Atlantic Region is responsible for managing, developing, implementing and evaluating volunteer-led programming offered across the Atlantic region, that exist within the CPAS portfolio. In this role, the Coordinator will oversee a comprehensive volunteer and resource program within the Atlantic region, while supervising and actively championing volunteer-driven activities across the CPAS portfolio.

The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Coordinator, After Stroke and the Coordinator, Community Programs within their respective region to ensure suitable volunteers are integrated into program delivery. The Coordinator will also work closely with other Coordinators, Volunteer Engagement and the Senior Manager, Volunteer Engagement to ensure consistent practices across the CPAS portfolio.
