Reporting to the Director, Community Development, SK & MB, the Volunteer Manager is responsible for building our comprehensive nationwide volunteer program. You will work closely with the Community Fundraising and Administrative departments to assess the volunteer needs of the Terry Fox Foundation (TFF). You will facilitate the recruitment, screening, placement, training, and management of candidates. Maintaining a national repository of active volunteers, you will match our volunteer candidates with cyclical opportunities in the community and in-office. Lastly, you will actively engage in ongoing outreach with our volunteers to promote positive and lasting connections with the Terry Fox Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
This role has two distinct objectives: Program Development and Program Management
Program Development
To establish this program at a cohesive national level, you will:
• Research volunteer management strategies to understand the current volunteer landscape and how it can fulfill the Foundation’s mission.
• Develop plans and strategies, goals and objectives for the development and expansion of the volunteer resource base, community connections, and volunteer opportunities within the organization, related to volunteers, fundraisers, community, and stakeholder connections.
• Work collaboratively with Foundation staff to determine volunteer needs and current practices.
• Design and create volunteer position descriptions, mapping out clear roles and skill sets required for assorted opportunities.
• Create a resource folder for volunteer management guidelines, training resources, and best practices.
• Create a volunteer handbook outlining our mission statement, codes of conduct, training checklist and operating procedures.
• Develop volunteer evaluation tools and methods.
Program Management
• Act as an internal consultant to TFF departments to develop a ‘needs analysis’ calendar for cyclical volunteer opportunities throughout the year with the goal of proactively scheduling volunteers for placement.
• Recruitment of volunteers through a variety of channels and marketing tools, including community outreach, advertising, email campaigns, special events and social networking.
• Screen, interview and assess knowledge, skills, and abilities of candidates to ensure proper placement.
• Maintain a national volunteer database for needs across offices and communities. Develop and oversee objectives, goals, and processes to manage volunteer performance, including retention strategies and performance evaluations.
• Create training sessions using volunteer management best practices to share across the organization.
• Build relationships and outreach with our volunteers to ensure all candidates have a positive, memorable, and lasting connection to the Foundation.
Qualifications
• 3-5 years' experience in volunteer management, preferably in a non-profit environment and/or training in a recognized Volunteer Management program.
• Experience in recruitment, screening, and onboarding practice an asset.
• Strong database management skills.
• Demonstrated experience with Office 365 and Salesforce or similar CRM software.
• Comfortable using social media and able to ‘think outside the box’.
• Strong research skills and ability to apply learned knowledge for program development.
• Strong verbal and written communication expertise.
• Excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with both staff and volunteers. Previous customer service experience beneficial.
• Keen attention to detail with strong organization and time management skills.
• Ability to balance multiple projects and activities with competing deadlines.
• Preference given to current/previous Terry Fox Run volunteers.
